The Network was instrumental in providing me the resources, skills, information and most importantly the support needed to go through the rigorous medical school application process --Dr. Humberto Sifuentes, UIC College of Medicine, 2005 Graduate
The HCOE Network is an integral part of the Hispanic Center of Excellence established to provide mentorship, lectures, and events to help Latino students improve their application to medical school. Over 1,000 students have become members of the HCOE Network. HCOE brings together Latino high school, college and medical students from Chicago and other areas in Illinois to encourage them to continue their academic pursuits towards a medical degree, strengthen and increase their interest in medicine and health care of the Hispanic community. Membership provides students with invitations to the open HCOE meetings, the Adelante Newsletter, and collaboration with Latino medical student organizations. The network is instrumental in increasing the number of applicants to medical school. There are more opportunities for HCOE NETWORK members to become involved with the HCOE through the Annual Leadership Development Conference, the HCOE Annual Recognition Reception, and the Grand Round meetings offered through the Medicina Scholars program.
